general information
Mey-Rin might look like your average clumsy maid, tripping over her own feet while balancing tea trays – but don’t let the glasses and frilly apron fool you. Behind those round lenses is one of the most precise sharpshooters in the Black Butler universe.
Fiercely loyal to Ciel Phantomhive and secretly swooning over Sebastian Michaelis (honestly, who wouldn’t?), Mey-Rin is determined to prove her worth. And she does so spectacularly – from the rooftops at night, where she keeps the manor safe with her sniper’s aim so perfect she doesn’t even bother with a scope.
The Inspiration
I’ve always been a big fan of Black Butler, and at first, I was set on cosplaying Ciel. But then I heard BTS’s Dynamite, and something about its energy felt like it was made for Mey-Rin’s playful vibe.
And here’s the fun twist—my Chinese name is actually Mey-Rin too! (It’s pronounced Mei Ling in Cantonese.) Clearly, this cosplay was meant to be.
Closet cosplay
First Appearance
My Mey-Rin cosplay actually began as a simple closet cosplay. I grabbed my work shirt and bow tie, added an apron I had sewn myself, and topped it off with a pink wig I found on Amazon. For the finishing touch, I used my own prescription glasses – though not the right model, I think it was matched the closet cosplay.
Later on, I upgraded the look by ordering her full outfit online and eventually swapped out my real glasses for ones that matched Mey-Rin’s iconic style even better.
